NATIONAL GALLERY SINGAPORE
Meeting Point: Level B1, Daily Tours Desk
Minimalism was a turning point in the history of art. Through the use of simple, geometric forms and non-traditional materials, Minimalism shifted the way that we experience art: it made the direct encounter with the art work, and the space it occupies, increasingly important. Concepts of materiality, seriality, infinity and transcendence are key aspects of Minimalism.
This Silent Tour takes you through a selection of works across different mediums in the exhibition Minimalism: Space. Light. Object. It is a platform for a reflective and introspective experience when encountering the artworks. We encourage you to slow down, pay close attention to the artworks’ material qualities and size, and gain awareness of the relationship between your body, the artworks and the environment around you. The tour will conclude with a focused discussion, where participants will get to share their personal experiences of the artworks.
